Google Translate Now Understands Belarusian
Starting this week, the Belarusian Internet is open also to people who do not speak our language. All what is required is to ask GoogleTranslate service to turn Belarusian into any language that you understand. This is actually a huge event. From now on, another barrier around Belarus is broken. You can read by yourself different sources and not depend on those few which have an English version of the content. You can decide for yourself what to trust.

This is the first online translator of the Belarusian language into so many languages. It provides translations of Belarusian texts into 50 other languages.
Belarusian Software Engineer of Google Ihar Makhaniok, who is also an active blogger, explains in his blog how the translation is made and what influences its quality:
Google Translate is a system of statistical interpretation, which is based on statistical models that are derived from documents translated by professionals. The more of these translated documents are available for the model, the better the translation. Relatively small number of documents translated into and from Belarusian is the reason why the Belarusian language was added later than others. It also effects the quality of translation, which is not always satisfactory. But from now on, the quality will only improve.
There are two spelling versions of Belarusian – classical and modern (official). English-Belarusian translations come out with the official spelling. However, it looks like translations from Belarusian into English do not depend on the spelling preferences. Both classical and modern spelling texts come out the same in English. Generation.bY is using the classical spelling, but it looks like this will not effect your understanding of its content when translated into English.
There is a big temptation to use this new tool as help for more frequent updating of this blog. But at the moment you could start checking out this cool service by browsing through Generation.bY translated into English automatically. Moreover, now it is also easier for foreign users to register at our web-page and leave your comments. To me the funniest part was to read the forums translated into English. Try it yourself and let me know if it helped you to feel closer to the Belarusian Generation Y.
