“Generation Belarus” as seen by Massimiliano Clausi
Previously we wrote about an Italian photo journalist Massimiliano Clausi, who visited Belarus last summer to take photos of Belarusian young people. Apparently, the photos have been published already and in addition to Massimiliano’s impressions in the interview he gave to Generation.by, now you can also experience his impressions through the photos he took.

The intention of the young photographer was to reveal his understanding of the Belarusian Generation Y through the camera objective. You will see bright fragments of usual Belarusian life in the photo story “Generation Belarus”. 28 photos depict inhabitants of the capital and a small village, music fans andyoung political activists, field workers and intellectuals as well as Belarusian landscapes.
Before the trip I had a general idea about Belarus. I have been to Romania and Kosovo. I was interested in Eastern European and former Soviet countries. So of course I knew something about the country but not much. I thought that Belarus is more similar to Russia but found out that Belarusian people are more open-hearted and hospitable. I observed living youth culture here.

Massimiliano realized that Belarus is somehow better than he had imagined in terms of culture and people and somehow worse from the point of economic development and life conditions. He shared his impressions in his interview to www.generation.by during the last day of his visit.
Massimiliano describes his impressions of Belarus on his web-site presenting the photo reportage:
While youths of Minsk download the latest mp3 hits from the Internet and start blogs openly criticizing the President, most of people are still dependent on state’s jobs especially in the countryside, where life still revolves around the Kolkhoz, the collective farm dating back to Soviet times
